I want to tell you about a phone call I made to the company yesterday. Over the weekend, I had talked to several friends about Jordex. For the most part, I would classify these people as sophisticated investors. I sent them copies of Keith's post, and I followed it up with a discussion on what I see are the merits of what has been presented to date. A few of them asked the same question. It was, "so what is so special about Jordex that will get them in the doors to do the real quality deals?" I answered the question as best as I could, but I decided to call the company and ask them for an answer. I spoke with Jim Graham (Jordex's IR contact) this morning, and this is the jest of what he told me. Bill Staudt (our President), has a tremendous amount of investment experience. He put in the time in the trenches at one of the most successful investment banks in the world. As a VP at A.G. Becker Inc., a merchant banking firm that was later taken over by Merrill Lynch , and then in his own firm, he excelled at recognizing, valuing, and arranging deals. Many of the new Internet or technology companies are being run by the same young entrepreneurs who started them. These people are experts in the areas that are core to their business, however they often require guidance as they grow their business past the start up stage. What many of them require is guidance on financing, business plans, strategic long term visioning, and mergers & acquisitions. Bill Staudt brings to the table a maturity and depth of experience in all of these areas. As a result of Mr. Staudt's years of experience in this area, he has made many friends and business acquaintances who know of his abilities. For a growing company, (which is about to go public) this set of skills is exactly what these firms need. Mr. Graham was pretty upbeat (and confident) about where they are right now. After our telephone conversation, I have concluded that based on Mr. Staudt experience, and connections, they are probably finding many of the doors wide open for him (and by default us as Jordex shareholders) that otherwise would have been closed shut. When I asked Mr. Graham again, whether their strategy would entail one major investment or a series of smaller strategic investments, he mentioned that they are much closer to defining their strategic plans going forward. When he stated that they are much closer, then I consider this very good news. Crazy Canuk
