Klein's boss is Reno, and Reno's boss is AG and the Democratic party. The bos's boss is going to have a war to fight in year 2000, the election!!! It is not good to have the medias talk about the case on and on during the election, as well as those analysts and LAW professors, i.e this case is to protect the competitors, and consumers is hurt due to this case , it is also not good for the medias , analysts, law professors talking that the democratic party is against freedom of invation, pro big government , pro government regulation on business ...etc during the election. So , Reno felt the political pressure to settle the case asap, otherwise DOJ win the battle but the Democratic party lose the war.

For Microsoft , time is on Microsoft's side, however, if the case drags on for a long long time , it is not good for the investors and the employee who own lots of options, as a result the moralty will be low and the top talent will begin to leave if the case drafs too long. So, now both sides have the incentive to settle, as soon as possible !!!! In one to two weeks !!!
The DOJ keeps the face, and MICROSOFT held the freedom of innovation !!!!! Every one wins.
