A CDMA voice call does not have "your own constant channel," it is shared with others via spread spectrum techniques. With wireless, only AMPS has your own constant channel for voice.

Do these "time slots" in HDR actually exist at a pre-defined time slot or do they just "happen" at unpredictable times as a packet?
