I doubt it will have more than a fleeting impact, if that. Nortel isn't a big factor in that market and Bay is still in its signature decline - the cuts reflect that decline. There is little doubt about the timing, an attempt by Brand X to steal some thunder.

Has anyone seen Nortel's TV ads? They're really lousy. Even for their derivative, imitative nature, they fail.

It would depend on the reason for cutting the price.

QWST recently had to go with a different supplier for equipment. Now they didn't say if it was due to technical or reliability issues with Nortel's gear or because Nortel was unable to meet the demand.

However, it would seem that if demand is outstripping supply then one would not cut the price by 50% if what you speak about is correct.

FWIW

Grilli: I think that the router sale is a clearance sale as they will no doubt introduce something like LU's. I would imagine that there might be a chance of CSCO announcing such a product today. Everyone will have one soon. JFD
