I don't think any of us know what it is worth. That's the problem. I like Ariba's prospects better than Commerce One - at least on paper - yet look at Commerce One. It's off the charts. Ariba did run up over 200 not long ago and then pulled back down around the $150 range. I can't help you on the valuation, sorry.

Go to ariba.com and read everything you can possibly understand. Personally, I'm quite content with the ARBA/SEBL alliance. How many corporations and large businesses are drooling to buy technology that will save them money going forward? No telling how much money is going to be thrown at these companies over the next three years. It's hard to gauge and hence, the valuations are up for grabs. Whether we nail them down as Godzilla plays or some other creature, it is clear that a tornado (or several of them) is forming.

Jill,

I have no idea whether it's worth 60 or 160 or 1600.

You left out $6. :)

Seriously, what methods would you normally use to determine value? This isn't a set-up. Instead, I'd be interested in your ideas about that and might be helpful in adding some thoughts once I've seen yours.

If you or others are not familiar with valuation tools, you're among millions of investors of the same ilk. So don't be shy about that. I knew didly squat about valuation five years ago and it took me only a couple months to be completely comfortable with many forms. If I can do it, ANYONE can!

Jill and thread. I've been watching ARBA from the sidelines as well. I see that ARBA's news today has really moved it and I'm still having a hard time figuring valuation. I did the same thing with JDSU over the last month as well, although it's pulled back over the last few days.
