I do not think that the parties are so very alike, and, in any case, stability in a democracy requires a substantial degree of consensus and predictability. Nor do I think that corporations own the parties, and even were that so, their interests often do not coincide, as when the steel industry seeks trade protection and is opposed by those who depend on steel for manufacturing. Democracy is not for the fastidious, it is a very messy way of doing business, and is not filled with pageantry. But it is a pretty good way of brokering interests and ensuring that all who have a stake are heard from....
