re: hdr license fees, didn't they say they would be quite low? so as to encourage rapid adoption? profits presumably to be generated from royalties on product. They should have gone for a 6-1 or an 8-1 split. Small sins. That's what the 3-billion-share authorization is for--"headroom"

Is HDR going to generate a new round of license fees, then depending on who is going to do what, a new round of revenue not included in current estimates that I know of. here is an excerpt from #3089 that I posted here. One more recollection from the HDR conference. Irwin Jacobs was asked about licenses for HDR. He replied that some already have licenses and those that only have IS-95 licenses would need to sign one (before HDR implemented). The additional one time license fee would be low or maybe even zero but he didn't elaborate. Of course the ongoing royalties for HDR would be similar to IS-95 royalties. I would add that Irwin seemed to indicate there would be new licensees wanting HDR (or 1XRTT?) from companies that are currently unlicensed but want to bring out new products with integrated wireless data (computer manufacturers, cars, smart appliances etc.) These new licenses would not be low cost to free but a nice source or revenue.
