It sounds like you might know a little bit about this...

Duke,

Too many pronouns, sorry: About SGI or more about Novell?

Most of what I know about Novell during that period comes from being (a) an avid reader of the trade press and (b) from being Sun customer who probably would rather have quit than implement a Netware network. The thing about the USL guys seeing their royalty stream threatened by Noorda's Caldera project (it was called that even before he left Novell) was tossed about in some rumor/opinion items in rags like Open Systems Today or whatever that CMP thing was called.

I really haven't followed SGI much except what I read on Slashdot. I agree that it does seem as if it is another one of those cases where there's a split in opinion within the company on how to pull out of the slump, and some people may care more about how to do it than they do about just picking something and getting on with it. I do, however, hope that they manage to keep their eye on the new vision long enough to finish the port of XFS to Linux; that is something that is sorely needed. (All y'all that don't know what I'm referring to can look here: oss.sgi.com )

The thing about SGI is that they always remind me of Scott McNealy's comment about how Sun has never lost a dime selling NT systems...

Regards,

--Bob

Duke and ALL: Here is another must read article for the Softee faithful as well as those who aren't convinced that the Judge's findings are totally arbitrary:
