The report on Siebel by Timothy Dolan of Deutshe Bank Alex Brown includes the following cogent comment concerning SEBL
"Having a very good product allows you to get in the game and is probably 25% of the battle, but ultimately it's who has the best sales, marketing and distribution capabilities that ultimately wins. Included within that are partnerships that help to expand the distribution channel and increase the market awareness of the company."
This really applies to any technology company trying to get into the mainstream. These customers are interested mainly in solutions, not in technology. As investors, we should keep this in mind when evaluating tech companies. Listen to the tech experts, but keep in mind that the marketplace battle is not always won by the "best" technology. It is usually won by a "good" technology, pushed by a company that can dominate the other factors.

Jill; I notice that i2 is conspicuously absent from your Deutsche Bank Report, sort of funny to miss the gorilla, aye?

They do have a buy on ASDV which is partnered with i2 and therefor IBM (I assume, haven't traced it that far).
here's a partial press release on that.

<<<<The agreement, announced at the i2 PLANET 99 conference, combines the strengths of two proven industry leaders that sell eBusiness solutions to optimize different, but related business processes in large companies. i2 has led the creation of intelligent e-Business solutions for supply chain management, product lifecycle management, and customer management. Similarly, Aspect Development has created a rapidly growing market for inbound supply chain solutions that optimize product development processes and eProcurement. The combined solution has the potential to deliver hundreds of millions of dollars in value to customers as they optimize their end-to-end processes for product creation and delivery.>>>>>

If anybody antes up the money for the report I would be very interested in the IBM SAP ORCL etc. parts of it.

Doug

Jill,

For those looking to add gorillas and potential gorillas to their portfolio, all of those companies are worth looking at. Lots of DD is required. :)
