US DVD Player sales jump in latest week to 419k for the week, and up 343.1% from last year. Almost 3 million US DVD Players sold this year..............................

Vital Statistics - 11/9/99

According to statistics from CEMA, for the week ending Oct. 29,1999, DVD player sales to retailers climbed back to the 300 percent range having sold 418,854 players, a 343.1 percent increase from this time in 1998. Projection television sales were also stunning with 61,893 shipped to retailers last week, a 37.1 percent increase from 1998.

Month-to-date sales were not spectacular, but are definitely promising. DVD player sales totaled 603,048, a 269.8 percent increase and projection television sales amounted to 138,068, a 20.6 percent increase.

Overall, year-to-date, DVD players are lingering slightly under the 3 million mark at 2,976,406, a 314.1 percent increase from 1998 and projection television sales are at 948,950, a 13.2 percent increase.

In other statistics, VideoScan reported that for the week ending Oct. 31, 1999, 441,000 DVD titles were sold yielding a tremendous year-to-date total of 14.38 million.
