Heard in cc that Thomson is shipping over 1 million tvs with guides in them in time for Christmas and that gmst is expecting another 1 million guide enabled sets to be sold in all other manufacturer sets by Christmas! 2-way wireless transmission is going to make the TV a responsive experience. GMST will turn the TV set into an "e commerce machine" which they are calling "T commerce". GMST gets royalties from web-tv sales although gmst guides promise to surpass web-tv in capabilities! Hart Scott Rodino anti trust progress: pretty clear that no issues with combining tv guide and gmst (Henry). Gmst licenses up to 30 guides. TV guide merger will combine advertising platforms and effective reach. We will combine the brand of TV Guide with Gmst. Est. 5 million households with 400 million page views per day for advertising. VCR PLUS: slow growth cash cow. DVD units: need for a guide. Henry said the reaction of cable cos. to the deal with TV Guide: generally happy with combo but concerned about single source supplier and that conversations will not formalize for 3-5 mos. when merger closes. Goal is to become a TV portal with e commerce and negotiations with service providers and any other party providing e commerce on tv are underway. Very exciting cc and company.
