My comments:
I am really getting the feeling that things are starting to bust at the seams for internet companies. Companies like MTI, with products like the Vivant, that are striving to supply, as you said, "twentyforever" fast unfading availability that always has a second wind, just when you need it (by easily adding more servers to an infinitely scalable SAN system), are going to be in huge demand in the near future. System failures due to lack of SAN horsepower, are becoming too commonplace and will only get worse as everyone in the brick and mortar world, packs up their bags and clammers onto the internet with their steamer trunks full of data to offer the latest in ASP services.

ASP Summit Denver Addresses the State of the Industry, Assists Companies In Their Evolution to Become Successful in the New Network Economy

ZD Studios Prepares for ASP Summit San Francisco, December 1-2
NEEDHAM, Mass., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The industry's leading ASP forum addressed capacity crowds of business leaders who gathered to learn, discuss and debate the growing application service provider marketplace at the launch of ZD Studios' ASP Summit series. The ASP Summit Denver, which took place last week at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Denver, CO, featured four keynote addresses, more than 70 speakers, new ASP solutions from nearly 30 sponsors and representatives from hundreds of companies seeking to develop strategies and solutions that will help them take advantage of the growing ASP market.

The ASP Summit series is the first of its kind designed to teach companies how to transform themselves from the old business model of being providers of raw connectivity into important partners that create solutions to ensure their success as well as the success of their enterprise clients in the new network economy. Conference sessions focused on ASP market opportunities, ASP business models and practices, and ASP technology infrastructure.

``ZD Studios has taken a leading role in providing ASPs with a forum for exploring the leading trends and strategies for this emerging market,' stated Maggie McDonald, general manager, ZD Studios' ASP Summit worldwide. ``The great success of the launch of the ASP Summit series demonstrates ZD Studios' ability to help this audience as they strive to become end-to-end solutions providers.'

ASP Summit Denver's opening keynote was presented to a standing-room only crowd. Traver Gruen-Kennedy, founder of the ASP Industry Consortium, made opening remarks, and commented, ``As we move from the gestation period to today when ASPs are deploying and building their core competencies, ASPs need to remember that their middle name is service -- so that people can get to their applications, data, communications, regardless of where they are and what resources they have. People are looking for a consistent experience every time they connect.'

In her keynote address, Debbie Harris, vice president global marketing discussed the importance of creativity when looking at the opportunities and challenges in the emerging ASP marketplace. She also presented a vision of the future of the market that she borrowed from Phil Waineright, managing editor ASP News Review (media sponsor of the ASP Summit). ``Within a few years, users will not want to install applications locally. Instead they will access the applications they need, on demand, from online providers who will charge them by the second for the precise value of the specific features they choose to use.'

Other keynote presentations were made by Steve Mills, general manager, Software Solutions Division, IBM; Jeff R. Anderson, assistant vice president, strategic development, Sprint Business and Eduardo Pontoriero, vice president, eService Providers Practice, Compaq. ``The Compaq presentation was right-to-the-point, and uncovered the key issues to becoming a successful ASP,' said one attendee, John Frazier, chairman, ebase one.

``The ASP Summit Denver wasn't just a meet-and-greet conference,' agreed Brian Wilkinson, senior vice president sales and marketing, Cyrus Intersoft -- a silver sponsor of the conference. ``It was very focused and allowed us to showcase Speiros technology and to meet and do business with a highly qualified audience.' Other ASP Summit Denver sponsors included Abovenet, AristaSoft, ASP News Review, bCandid, Candle Corporation, Cisco Systems, Citrix, Compaq, Conxion, Enron Communications, FutureLink, IBM, Interliant, Lucent Technologies, NaviSite, Newbridge Networks, Nortel Networks, Packeteer, Progress Software, Qwest, Sprint, Sun Microsystems, Surebridge, Telecomputing, Tequinox, Top Layer Networks, Unisphere Solutions, and USi. Interactive Week is a media partner.

Two more ASP Summit events will be taking place in the US in the coming months: the ASP Summit San Francisco on December 1st and 2nd at the Argent Hotel in San Francisco, CA; and ASP Summit San Jose in February 2000. Several international events are also being added to the schedule, including Australia, Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom.
