Company Press Release
Global Industries Begins Operations from New Headquarters, Deepwater Port Facility in Carlyss, Louisiana
CARLYSS, La.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 1999--Global Industries (Nasdaq: GLBL - news) will significantly expand its capacity to meet operators' deepwater and reel pipelay needs in the Gulf of Mexico this December with the official opening of its offshore construction headquarters in Carlyss, Louisiana. The 625-acre site was selected because of its location along the 40-foot deep Calcasieu Ship Channel - capable of supporting Global's deepwater fleet - and includes a pipe assembly rack that is more than half a mile in length. With the opening of the facility, Global closed its Houma and Lafayette, La., facilities in late October to consolidate its offshore operations in Carlyss.

''This move illustrates our employees' commitment to enhancing our communications among Global's offshore construction operations, quality of service, and readiness to meet customers' needs,'' says Global Industries Chairman and CEO William J. Dore. ''This facility provides a cooperative environment for planning and problem-solving, a consolidated inventory of equipment, direct access to the Gulf of Mexico, and greater capacity to meet the needs of operators producing the Gulf's deep and ultra deepwater reserves.''

Along with providing a deeper water port, the Carlyss facility features a 2,790-foot long pipe rack that is considerably larger than Global's 1,700-foot long pipe rack in Houma. Pipe racks are used to weld and assemble pipe onshore for spooling onto reel barges. The size and capacity of the Carlyss pipe rack will particularly expand the pipelaying capabilities of Global's combination barges Hercules and Chickasaw. Global also constructed a barge slip dedicated to pipe-spooling operations during the first phase of construction in Carlyss, which began in 1997.

In the second phase of construction, Global added a general-use barge slip, mechanic shops, auxiliary buildings, and a 52,000-square-foot administration building. The Carlyss facility is located 17 miles from Lake Charles, La. The facility will work jointly with Global's Business Development function in Houston and its Special Services and Diving divisions in New Iberia, La.

Global Industries provides pipeline construction, platform installation and removal, and diving services to the oil and gas industry in the Gulf of Mexico, West Africa, Asia Pacific, Middle East/India, and Mexico's Bay of Campeche. The company's shares are traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol ''GLBL.'' Pappy,Re: GLBL + Offshore Construction industry.

As you will be able to ascertain from the following charts the investor pessimism is extreme.

For this reason, I believe, this sector will outperform (on a percentage basis) the OSX by a substantial margin; over the next six months. That is why I am HEAVILY concentrated here. Just a litlle patience is required. Patience isn't a 4 letter word is it? <VBG>
