Hi Gary - not sure what you are trying to get at. Obviously, cost-benefit is a big part of the equation. It is a given. While I am not technical enough to understand t.g. either, it is an invitation for all the big players to think beyond the traditional framework, i.e., nodes and pipes. Ultimately, even if what t.g. describes is NT's intention [I am not a technie] it requires the gorillas of different sectors to play balls. And these gorillas certainly are not for other people's interest.

For the immediate future, it is probably not likely to break CSCO's stranglehold b/c of IOS, let's hope that there will be fireworks in how they respond to one another's challenges. That is how technologies are improved at internet speed.

best, B

Not the fortune 500 who will continue to want dedicated, proprietary high-end routers....BUT the low-end, middle market may decide that they can live with certain shortcoming inherent in software based routing application on non-dedicated hardware platform.......

It's all a matter of product positioning. I am not sure what % of Cisco's revenues are coming from Fortune 500 versus the rest of the market but if the middle market is a significant chunk of Cisco's revenue stream, Nortel's approach may impact Cisco and help Nortel lock more customer's onto their Network Edge products.
