Gary, These remarks seem mild. You actually said something similar in regards to NT's PR a few minutes ago. All of these guys (McGinn, Roth and Chambers) make comments that could be construed as hype and each is exposed on these boards. there are comments on the CSCO board from the last 2 hours alluding to LU's DSO's, margins and "factoring". I do not believe that anyone has a chip on their shoulder about CSCO here since CSCO only competes with LU in a small % of their respective markets. of course there is some joking around, but nothing serious. If CSCO can keep holding up its end of the bargain in regards to the networking group, that is good. LU will keep doing the same and we will all be rich. Take care, Brian

Gary, it is good news that Cisco did well. I am truly impressed with their execution, but, Y2K enterprise slow down in spending is a real thing. If Cisco comes out unscathed next quarter, it should be a smooth sailing. I am still concerned about their high speed routers and optical strategy. If they stumble there, it will very hard to make a comeback considering its extremely high valuation.

I am happy for all Cisco longs. I am long via selling puts deep in the money.

Regards,
BR

>>I never did understand the hostility toward Cisco on this thread..... still don't. It's certainly not something you see on the CSCO thread when LU announces good earnings - why because CSCO investors know that good LU or NT earnings are good for the big three. You all need to get rid of the chip on your shoulders and applaud the CSCO release. It'll help carry this sector higher. A bad report would have had the opposite effect on our LU positions. So, why the negativism? I don't get it.

That's easy. Cisco is an "in your face" monument to the failures of the "Old World" companies. Cisco stands as the most successful company in the history of computing (by various measures) and is valued more highly than LU or NT. LU and NT were happy "competing" against each other and the other slow moving companies, but the Cisco Kid intruded on that happy old world.

Now Cisco is in its adolescence and is taking on the PBX geezers, growing more than twice as fast and advancing on their home turf, with all the advantages of being younger, smarter, faster and richer.

And the PBX geezers hate that.
