Duke, thanks for the article on the latest lawsuit vs. Intel. Have to reiterate what someone very close to Intel told me once: 'no-one sues poor companies.' And, the other side of the coin, or course: 'if you have a lot of money, be prepared to be sued a lot.'

In June 1998, TechSearch L.L.P. ("TechSearch") filed suit against Intel in the United States District Court for the
Northern District of Illinois alleging that Intel's microprocessors based on the P6 microarchitecture infringe a patent
related to emulation technology.

So this guy is suing because they believe that Intel did infringe a patent
related to emulation technology.

They've been sued in the past for supposedly lifting patented designs directly, like cache management schemes and other designs, from DEC (and came out settling OK). Emulation is a discipline in the overall CPU design process that I'd call a good couple of levels away from design itself. In other words, this suing group believes Intel stole their emulation method? Sounds really reaching, but WDIK and who knows when the lawyers and courts get ahold of it. A thing I have a lot of confidence in with Intel (among other things) is their legal department. Even in the book "Inside Intel" the attention to which Noyce and Moore gave to setting up a strong legal department was duly noted. My money's on Intel on this one too.

I heard on CNBC they lost also. I can't pull up the article that was posted a couple posts earlier than yours. Has anyone read anything about this since CNBC is a very unreliable source of information.
