THose are all smart guys. Re-read the announcments. What are Intel or Micrsofot doing here? It's all Nortel. Dr Grove, Mr Barrett, and Mr Gates are all happy to have Nortel promote their products for them. But I wouldn't read any more into it than that. It's quite self-serving...but I can tell you with a fair amount of conviction... Nortel will not generate enough incremental revenue from licensing sales to offset what they just gave away in their price cuts. Why - because developers are smart enough to know that this architecture has been tried before and failed. The only angle here is Nortel attempting to commoditize the router market any way they can in order to slow CISCO down in the optical space. Nortel is worried and this is an effort to slow things down. Why else would a company slash prices in a market growing as fast as the router market - think about it.
