Well Joe, the problem is fixed but not how you think!

When I got into Outlook Express the provider connection continued to stay on. I waited in there and read some mail, went out, came back and it still worked! And it has not worked in a week, including today!

So I figure you have a magic touch that Cyberly vibrates through the wires and healed my computer just by reading your post!
An amazing thing that is, thanks!
If the magic wears off I will go back to your suggestion,

Puna

Hi Joe- same as Puna, Your Cyber-Techspertise has been fixing my computer problems since you started this thread! You even fixed my wireless internet-to-notebook problem somehow ... how do you do it? ... still got no wireless gizmo & got no time to shop around again for one again now ... ba-da-bing it's XJO to the rescue ! Thanks ! The last salesman was the computer store Owner (he was SO enthusiastic, hey who wouldn't be, i just about gave him carte blanche to just choose whatever'd work together the best and tell me how much it'd cost ).... this 'un never called me with the details & appx. price, either! Just like the rest of 'em!! It goes downhill once they know i'll only buy the whole thing with all gizmos connected and software installed and it's internet-activated & ready...
even though Of Course i expect to PAY EXTRA ...
THAT'S when they back off from the sale!
Q. "Do I Look Like A Do-It-Yourselfer?"
A. " NO ! "
After getting me a nice cup of coffee, and listening For A Minute... At first The Owner showed me a whiz-bang Toshiba notebook with the wireless modem card he'd install .... going great so far .... then when i said it needs an adapter too, he said "You'll just get that at the phone store".
So....
On With The Show, X-Files Encounter # 6 or #7 ....
Act 1 - "THE BUCK STOPS HERE" - @ CONSUMERSIDE ...
So after he said so brightly "just get the cable for wireless at the phone store" then i said (patiently, not giving the game away) i said "yes the phone store has the cable to fit the digital phone, but what it needs next is the particular adapter to get That particular cable-end Operational With This Computer". So then, recovering from his astonishment quickly (it's The OWNER) just like they all do he wanted to PASS THE BUCK ONTO ME, THE CONSUMER & he brightly said "i'll give you the catalogs to get that". ACT II - "WALK AWAY WITH A PIG IN A POKE? JUST SAY NO" ....
I said, i have no time or expertise to mess around with a chore like that. After gently explaining this to him, he flurried like Sir Walter Raleigh about how of course not, i'm a busy lady. When i said i need him to find and hook up the adapter, he agreed to do so. When i said i know how fast those adapters sellout and/or become obsolete, his eyes grew hard.... as he said "oh that's no trouble at all, you'll have no trouble with that." So then i again specified I'll buy a Unit Ready-To-Go or Nothing! Want all programs installed and all i have to do is go thru License Wizard & activate internet!!
And i know i'll hafta PAY EXTRA for it and that's OK!!
So then The Owner brightly said "SURE, I'd be GLAD to do that!! This Toshiba (for $$$g's +) is just what you want, very powerful, hi-dpi touch screen AND ballmouse, microphone & speakers, this printer goes with it, beautiful carrying case over there, whole thing'll be under 10 lbs., etc. So tomorrow he'll call his phone store pals who sent me there in the 1st place, they'll line me up with what phone i'd buy from the git-go! Said he'd just get the model #s of a couple their cables & should havit all lined up for me by tomorrow afternoon. I reminded him of the ADAPTER Problema, and he assured me he'd find one easy once he has the model of the phone and cable; he'll have it all lined up tomorrow.
GREAT!! i said... So i gave him my home & BEEPER #s, went back to the phone store, talked to them what's going on, they said they always work with him... i said i'll come by tomorrow afternoon or the next day to get whatever phone they suggest and start the service. Gave them both my #s too. What More Could Salesfolks Ask For Than That???!!!
But....
ACT III - "No one ever called me back"!
So in a few days i called, left my name/#s with others more than once, never heard from any of 'em again.
So, Thanks For Solving All My Computer Problems, Joe...
as Mick Always Sez "You Can't Always Get Whatchoo Want"... So will probly be getting that Sprint/Qualcomm mini-screen internet/phone combo to watch quotes away from home for now, E-Z Way. And get daughter a nice slim big notebook & portable printer, carrying case, etc. with that Intel Software that lets ya plug into the wall to get online for now, whatever it is.
IF i ever have computer problems again, i'll let you know.
For now, U Fixed It JOE - THANKS !!!!
