Cosmo, feel the need to correct part of what you said; you are misapplying a technical term. Authorized shares are not held in "treasury" as you stated. They are authorized to be issued but not issued. Treasury shares are those which have been issued, sold to stockholders and were "outstanding" but for one reason or another repurchased by the company. Since they are issued shares, they are placed in the "treasury" as an asset of the company. Unissued but authorized shares are really nothing but a right of the company to issue them to stockholders at some time in the future; they are not an asset.
