Gary - RE: "Actually, I find it quite interesting that Compaq use this supposed to be high end mobile part in their consumer line which also use AMD parts too."

Compaq has usually offered at least one Presario notebook with the fastest Intel notebook processor.

450MHz is the highest MHz Compaq currently offers in their Presario line, by AMD and Intel. Of course, there is quite a performance difference between the K6-2 and PIII.

In Compaq's Prosignia line, the 475MHz K6-2 is the highest MHz processor available. That notebook is actually at a pretty good price. Similarly configured, it is $400 less than a PII 400PE system while offering 75 more MHz which is sure is cut down the difference between the K6-2 and PII-PE a good amount.
