They don't have to knock you out to relieve pain. And, in cases of serious local trauma, I think they have to give people medication to keep them still enough to find out where's where. You just can't work on someone, or catscan them, who's flailing around. Sometimes the adrenaline shock, carries the person through. But I've been there when they couldn't touch me. And when my pain, was irrelevant, to the obvious.

We're not talking about mysterious ailments. Just injury. Your arm gets smashed, your heels in a fall ~ it's obvious what happened. There's nothing wrong with your breathing. What's to figure out that they figure out AFTER the X-rays?

They check your vitals, allergies, meds, et al and go.

jmho.

<<I think they need to figure out stuff first before they knock you out. >>

That's fine but the trauma center doctors won't prescribe pain killers until your personal doctor oks it. I'd think the doctor holding your x-rays has a better idea than the doctor who's eating at the country club.

I had some bad stomach pains and my wife took me to the emergency room. My doctor had retired and he had sold his practice to another doctor. They wouldn't treat me without the new doctor's approval and he wouldn't give it until I came in for a checkup. He was also booked for the next 10 days. I got a new doctor the next day.
