A short pain story . . . .

For many years I suffered with unexplained headaches. They would come without warning, without stimulation, and without relief. I tried every over-the-counter remedy available. My doc even prescribed codeine on occasion. Pot offered some relief but made me kinda' paranoid about the legality. Same for coke except worse.

Once I was observed banging the forehead against the doorjamb to take my attention away from the inner agony.(Really started some discussion there)A friend suggested discussing the pain with the guy who teaches a variety of martial arts. I laughed, but when the next head splitter came I reconsidered.

He said:"Breathe. Feel the air moving in through your nose, follow it with your thoughts but don't force it in or out. When the inhalation is complete, pay attention to the exhalation. I said PAY ATTENTION!Listen to the noise the breath makes as it flows. Count breaths to ten. If you lose count, start over. You must PAY ATTENTION!

Soon the pain will seem only an irritating intruder in your focus and concentration as you learn to control it. One day you will notice its absence."

Worked for me!
