Nortel Networks to Bring Profitability to Internet High Performance Internet to Provide Engine for Economic Growth

John Roth, President and CEO says at Financial Analyst Address

NEW YORK, NY, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ - In a presentation at the company's annual financial analyst conference today, Nortel Networks (NYSE/TSE: NT) president and chief executive officer John Roth set out a 'work plan' to bring profitability to the Internet.

In his address, Roth said that revenues from voice services can no longer subsidize the Internet. He pointed to the high-performance Internet as an engine for economic growth for businesses, service providers and Nortel Networks. ''The high-performance Internet will provide the reliability, speed and quality needed for the Internet to become the global distribution system for knowledge, entertainment and commerce in the new millennium.''

Our open service enabling platforms and new services such as customer relationship management, Internet Call Waiting, e-mobility applications, and new bundled voice and data services will bring profitability to the net.''

Citing the company's leadership in Optical Internet, Internet Telephony, Wireless Internet and Internet Services -- Roth said ''What we're doing is making the Internet what you want it to be - profit-rich, high performance, always on, and capable of delivering new services and applications that we can only begin to imagine today.''

The "old world" hardware will not
handle that many users.


Excellent posturing... but then, what is the new world hardware? And how is it better suited to handle the load?
