If a crisis strikes, do you hold enough gold to act as a hedge against the potential drop in asset value and earnings ability in the remaining of your portfolio (including your job and real estate)?

Personally, in case a crisis develops, I hope the Fed does a good job like it did last year. That way, we all benefit.

If the present value of a company is calculated as the sum of its discounted future earnings, then many of the internet companies actually may be properly valued. Of course, as you said, future earnings may be a myth. That's the risk venture capitalists take; nothing new there. What really has changed is that what was once a old boy's club is now being open more and more to the public (aka J6P in the Myth domain). Oh, the horror!
