WDC was up 1 to 4 1/4, a 31% gain which made it 2nd largest % gainer on the Big Board. WDC rose on bullish comments by Banc of America regarding the disk drive sector.

WDC stock volumes were then over 17.5 million shares, compared to the aver. full daily volume of 2.5 million shares.

Over 55% of the volume to 1:30pm was block trades, which shows a heightened involvement from institutions. Nearly half of the block trades were in excess of 20K shares.

Most notable are a series of trades over 100k during 10:00-11:00. A review of the best bid and ask at the time of the sale suggests that four of the five trades were initiated by the buyer.

In the pre-trade market, institutional investors have backed the rally, though a few traders are looking to sell into today's rise, pulling the stock from its intra-day high of $4 1/2.

Watch for continued support at these higher prices to indicate the rally has legs in the institutional market.
