OK, has anyone ordered their Globalstar phone from GMPCS, yet? Yesterday, credible looking posts on the Yahoo thread indicated these guys are ready to sell you a phone, with delivery in 30 days, for 1495$ (plus tax, I suppose):

Jeff, maybe you could drive down and check these guys out. According to Mapblast, they're only about 2 1/2 hours from the Space Coast.

I don't feel like bothering these good people myself, since my interest is strictly as an investor, not a buyer, but if someone talks to them I'd dearly like to know the following:

1. In 30 days, what coverage is promised: CONUS, US + Canada, US + Can+Mexico, or only X miles from Clifton, TX.

2. If you buy a phone from GMPCS, can you register it with any US AMPS or CDMA cell provider for terrestrial service, or does it have to be Airtouch?

3. Will your phone number be a US number; if so, can you choose the area code?

4. How much will it cost when someone (to keep it simple, let's say someone in the US) calls you on your G* phone when it's (a) in terrestrial mode, (b) in sat mode?

5. When will car kits be available and how much do they cost?
