The Financial Post reports in a Calgary Herald dispatch its Monday edition that despite some glitches and uncertainty about the role of Quebec's planned electronic exchange for small-cap stocks, the plan to merge the Alberta and Vancouver stock exchanges is set to kick off later this month. Reporter Geoffrey Scotton says the merger between the VSE and the ASE is going smoothly. "The stars are aligning. We're in pretty good shape," says Tom Cumming, ASE president and chief executive. Mr. Cumming says that Quebec's move to retain a junior exchange may be hard to justify, but the exchanges will have to live with it and make it work as best they can. Mr. Cumming says that by Nov. 26, late in the evening, member firms will vote to approve the deal and he anticipates having everything in place by Nov. 29. Mr. Cumming says he is quite excited about the potential for the Toronto office, and he thinks it could lead to significant growth.
