I just watched the NY presentation (at least Capellas, Winkler and the MSFT guy). You can download it from compaq.com. Capellas must read this thread. He's really playing to the gallery with the "cool" talk - obviously trying to make it his catchphrase.

iPaq was not shown very clearly - the distance and angle made it look like a video entry-phone and a storage stack having sex or morphing (or both).

I can't see it making much profit at $499, but assume it is part of a strategy to infilitrate enterprises with the Business to Employer content, and then make them depedent on COMPAQ forever.

On the whole, it looks like a good idea especially the following points:

1. It will be the first commercially available model of its kind beating out models from IBM and others.

2. It will be sold direct by COMPAQ or delivered direct on behalf of the 4 or 5 wholesale partners - there will be no inventory.

3. It will accommodate wireless.

4. Partners for content will include MSFT (Windows 2000), American Express, Intel, Sega and others.

5. As small and neat and inexpensive as it is - it is two or three times more powerful with twice the RAM of my huge clunker of a Deskpro 2000 which cost 10 x more.

What I don't like about it is:

6. It is not as cool in appearance as iMAC.

7. It takes so long to explain what it is.

Anyone got a link to a good photo of it?

Gee a floppy drive in that new PC would have cost about $6 (if that) at the OEM level. CPQ is cheap and their machines are slower than the competition.
