Just when you thought it could not get any worse...

From LA Times Nov 22, 1999:

The FDA warns against HIV tests sold via web

The FDA cautioned that many home test kits that
test for HIV are inaccurate and users are risking
their lives. One one kit has been FDA approved:
The Home Access Health Corp kit which you need to
send your blood sample to a lab for testing. The
FDA said that several companies are offering kits
sold over the web offering results in as little
as 15 minutes. A spokesman for the FDA said it
ordered serveral kits and tested them with HIV+
blood samples. All the kits indicated that no
virus was present.

I have often wondered if that one kit sold out of
the Cayman Islands was the SDS kit. At any rate,
none of this is good news for anyone...
