>>>Gates told about 2,500 shareholders at the company's
annual meeting. ''But if we can't add Internet support (to the
Windows operating system), we can't do anything.'<<<

Can someone explain to me why Internet support has to be within the operating system? I am using Windows 95 with a separate stand alone browser and it works fine. Why does it have to be part of the operating system? I can understand why they would like to parlay their OS success into browser success, but what is wrong with the approach of writing a better browser (which I think they are capable of doing) and letting the market decide?

TIA,

Mark

taxman, I plan to hold my shares along with Mr. Gates but my investment has been in tax sheltered accounts--meaning i can trade in and out with no tax consequences. Currently, i am mostly out of this stock; just have a small holding.
Over the long term, this is one stock i want to own but in the short term we have to get over this negativity. Once the volume settles down, that could be the time to buy.

It is certainly starting to look like a safe investment compared to the rest of the techs. Might offer great downside protection in the event of major market correction. That is the reason that is tempting me to buy it even in the short term.

I am still long on this stock but looking for gains further down the road.

Real audio (one of the complainers of the Microsoft hegemony) just got popped with a Billion Dollar class action suit: Seems that while you are listening to the Beatles, the are gathering information on you and your computer and selling it to guys like Stratton Oakmont Securities. tisk tisk

At least the plaintiffs are man enough to fight their own battles, in a civil forum rather than go crying to the FTC.

I love this country.
