Hi Rich,

You will not believe this but I was taking my daily nap and I swear to God I thought, what if Dr. Jacobs died?

I have absolutely no idea. The tech or inner workings are not my bag but his incapacitation might be.

Here's some "rational exuberance:"

I'm reading through the thread and I'm getting the feeling that there are those who are feeling a little nervous about the share price. Let's put it into perspective.

AOL as of today has a market cap of around $163 billion.
QCOM has a market cap of just over $50 billion.

AOL estimates for earnings next year average around $1.25 assuming a growth rate of 48%

QCOM earnings estimates are around $4.00 assuming a 35% growth rate (pro forma)

My feeling is that the AOL earnings are over estimated and the QCOM earnings are underestimated by biblical proportions. But, nevertheless, assuming estimates are correct, which stock would you rather be buying today?

Can the Q keep climbing until it has reached the market cap of AOL? I'd be surprised if it didn't reach that level in less than a year.

That puts the stock price at........

$950.

At that point I'd say, "Well, we're finally getting to the point where Qualcomm is merely undervalued."

The end.

. This is exactly my concern. If for any reason, Dr. J is no longer capable of guiding the company (i.e. health or heaven forbid worse) how would this affect the future of Q??? Vertibi and Antonio, are a force as I am sure others are--but, is the team that would be left capable of pushing the train at the same speed??????? Similarly, what would be the effect of losing either Vertibi or Antonio or others???

I think there are many more likely scenarios to concern yourself with than the loss (for whatever reason) of one or more of the companies leading visionaries. If, against all odds, something did cause the loss of one of the companies leaders, I can assure you that the loss would be felt much deeper and harder in peoples hearts and minds than in their brokerage accounts.

the only thing i see that could go bump in the night for Q is for some team of medical researchers to prove an electromagnetic/tumor connection. that old sawhorse, again. one could say, if so, hair dryers, or tv's,or whatever, are more dangerous. but are they? have studies been made and failed to prove a connection? i ask this not to be a wiseguy, spoilsport, but out of fear and ignorance. if a connection were shown, could a shield be made: something that would receive the waves, keep them from the listener's head, but pass their electrical impulses into the instrument? or is that a non-tech dream?

no fear as to top management. Q has over 700 patents, paths well set by dr jacobs, one of the best tech teams the world has ever seen, and plenty more to announce, i think - a lot more than HDR.
