Yes but isn't 3G going to be all for one on the same channel? Or do I have it all wrong?

Well, that is the way the ITU envisions it. Qualcomm is a member of the ITU but, of course, a decision was reached by a vote. CDMA2000 is Qualcomms answer to 3G requirements and, yes, it is all for one on the same channel. What will the market want?

Irwin Jacobs has been pointing out for some time that voice and data have different characteristics and are best served by different specifications for capacity and other reasons. It is apparent to me that I.J. thinks HDR is the best solution to high speed data for these reasons and also because it can get to market sooner since it does not require a large contiguous band of spectrum. He seems to be keeping the wideband possibilities open also and says the market will decide and Q will deliver. I'm just can't see what 3G offers that the more flexible solutions don't other than meeting 3G specs but I'm sure we will learn more as this plays out. All of the paths look highly profitable to me.
