"Today, even low-end PCs can handle adequate software decoding". I don't know about that. It's still way too processor intensive - and for laptops? Forget it. It drains the battery.

Also, I haven't seen a soft-DVD demonstration yet that comes close to hardware DVD in picture quality.

I wonder how the prices compare between software decoding and hardware decoding? Are there any free software decoders out there for DVD? I tried to figure this out, but I got confused. Forget asking any of the sales people.
