Solon, The 'hick' offers advice on selecting a a 'life-mate'... For example - a purely hypothetical example - Say one has a spouse that refuses to load the ATV(4-wheeler) by backing it on to the truck. Say one demonstrates, again, on how to load the ATV into the truck. The usual instructions are issues...."Just pay attention...take it easy...." that one offers in such cases. Now suppose that one knocks the back glass out of the truck while doing this..... The proper response is to opine..."See what can happen if you don't watch what you are doing? Now let me get this thing off of here and go get that glass replaced." This is a good time to judge ones choices in a 'life-mate'. Does she offer admiration for the heights that one goes to in 'creative cussing'? Does she offer 'thanks' for trying to educate her? Or does she display unseemly behavior like rolling around, gasping, and grasping her sides? Avoid the ones that display unseemly behavior. Purely theoretical....When one returns from getting the back glass replaced.....Does one return to a grateful spouse who is appreciative of demonstrations? Or does one return to neighbors that want to know "How the hell you managed to 'knock the back glass out of your truck' on perfectly level ground". Avoid the ones that draw a crowd.... A wife with a warped sense of humor can be a social liability. A wife that refuses to believe that you knocked out the back glass...."just to demonstrate" what can happen if you are not careful...is bothersome. Would I lie...? Why would she doubt me? lee
