RTev: Perhaps there are legal reasons for the integration which has its roots in the court decisions. Get the drift here - an overriding attention to conform with court decisions. However if you think IE5 would be better left as a separate app. it is indeed your right to have that opinion but MSFT should not have to be bound by the opinion of its competitors and detractors.

You are right that Word would be a little cumbersome for inclusion in the O/S (how kind) but MSFT has a vision for integrating the desk top seamlessly with the net. The day of this vision is soon upon us when the dial up connection will soon be a thing of the past with the individual desk top being seamlessly melded into the desktop of the www. You see Gates takes a little gee whiz concept that is the province of the techie and takes it to a much grander concept that captures the imagination of the public at large and not just the nerd. Sure they used Mosaic's technology but they licensed it legally and developed it to an art form. JFD
