Charter is different from the other cablecos in that they have Paul Allen running things and he has a focus (see the Forbes articles posted upstream a bit.) Also, this is his vision and it has never been done before - all this is still evolving. We know that the TV and PC will be united, with an incredible array of choices for entertainment and chores. Also, if it is successful (which none of us doubt), the package can be sold to other companies.

I see Carolyn gave you an excellent answer.

Most importantly, Paul Allen retained 95% of the voting rights for CHTR, and Paul Allen is Vulcan Ventures.
