Vancouver Stock Exchange -
Van Sun says Maymac broker was repeat offender
Vancouver Stock Exchange VSE
Shares issued 0 1899-12-30 close $0
Thursday Nov 11 1999

Tillex shares rocketed from the 20-cent issue price to $77.88 before being halted and delisted.

The Vancouver Sun reports in its Thursday edition that a Vancouver stockbroker who was disciplined for his part in the International Tillex Enterprises scandal of 1987 has been penalized for improper short-selling. Reporter David Baines says the Vancouver Stock Exchange has fined Gerry Borchert $5,000 and ordered him to disgorge $19,000 in "inappropriate profits." He was also ordered to pay investigative costs of $2,000 and placed on strict supervision for six months. The exchange says that VSE-listed Maymac Petroleum issued two releases in late 1996 and early 1997 disclosing that the company was negotiating an equity financing with Canaccord Capital. Mr. Borchert later shorted the stock before the termination was disclosed. In 1987, Mr. Borchert was fined $10,000 for participating in the distribution of Tillex shares knowing that someone other than the listed buyer was paying for and taking delivery of the shares. After the primary distribution, Tillex shares rocketed from the 20-cent issue price to $77.88 before being halted and delisted.
