Helkel,

While an actual release of an MCI contract by PAIR would be the best possible scenario (and probably good for a $2 - $3 gap), Mr. Notter's report reiterating his firms (Dain Rauscher Wessels) STRONG BUY, aggressive rating released today speaks of an MCI win as a given (as it has been by himself and others previously).

"We are highlighting PairGain as a top pick within our Local Loop Universe. Our enthusiasm stems from momentum being generated with Avidia. We believe that investors will increasingly value PairGain more like other xDSL equipment suppliers as Avidia continues to demonstrate viability as a key new product cycle. Several points highlight our thesis.

Avidia is gaining momentum. The system is being viewed positively as it incorporates ATM QOS capabilities and offers very strong port densities and reach characteristics.

Recent carrier wins allow us to project an improvement in Avidia fundamentals next year. MORE SPECIFICALLY, THE RECENT MCI WORLDCOM WIN, in our view, validates the product as a significant new product cycle. Formally announced wins at @Link, Citizen's Telecom, and Hargray further validates Avidia. These three announced wins should, in aggregrate, generate between $25 - $35 million next year, IN ADDITION TO MCI WORLDCOM, AND AT LEAST SEVEN OTHER ACCOUNTS, NOT YET DISCLOSED.

This report also mentions that PairGain, at AEA, hinted that news regarding a sale of the microelectronics bussiness, estimated to bring between $100 - $150 million could be coming shortly.
