No No, wrong, you did just as much the day you chose to sign up!

It is not the results or the medals I admire it is that you LAID IT ON THE LINE. You did not control where you served. You were just as vulnerable as anyone.

Here's to you and all the other unselfish soldiers who did the same.

Appropriately OT: <<Thanks to all the veterans today.>>

Great story, Lindy. My father served during the Korean War, too.

I was just a year shy of service age during the Viet Nam War. I'll never forget sitting in class as a university freshman during the draft and seeing an empty seat where the day before a fellow student had been sitting. Many of them never returned. Brothers, friends, fathers, all.

Years later I had an opportunity to visit the Viet Nam Veteran's Memorial in DC. I was overcome by the sorrow and humanity, the pride and the anger that surrounded me. I wept uncontrollably. I'll never forget that afternoon and the thought of it sends tears to my eyes at this very moment. When my children were young they did not understand why The Wall had such a profound affect on me; after all, I had not been in the service. As they grew older, I think they started to understand that it is something that reaches to the very core of every person; regardless of age or experience. And they started to realize that The Wall, while having everything to do with Viet Nam, was about so much more than Viet Nam - it was about people and service, at the very highest level of commitment, to and for each other. But my words fail to scratch at the very basis so I'll stop.

My heartfelt thanks to all of the men and women who have ever served our country and are honored today as Veteran's. I salute you.

OT: Thanks to all for sharing. As those who know, LindyBill, it's Q-uality, not Q-uantity that counts. Somehow imagining A. Gore in a uniform doesn't instill respect and confidence, but maybe it's just me. Ha, ha...
