ScanSoft scales new high on H-P pact
Rages for Second-day after Wednesday's Microsoft deal

PEABODY, Mass. (CBS.MW) -- Shares of ScanSoft surged 82 percent
Thursday after announcing the incorporation of a Hewlett-Packard
protocol in one of its products.

The surge is on top of Wednesday's 113 percent romp after Microsoft
(MSFT: news, msgs) agreed to license the company's optical character
recognition technology. See full story.

The maker of digital
imaging software
(SSFT: news, msgs)
rose 3 3/8, or 82
percent, to 7 1/2 on
volume of 12 million
shares.

ScanSoft said its Pagis
Pro software will offer HP's (HWP: news, msgs) JetSend
device-to-device communications protocol.

The software lets users share documents with more than five million
JetSend-enabled devices such as scanners, printers and digital cameras,
simplifying interaction between the devices.
