The owner is a woman, keep in mind, whose employment prior to her marriage was as a manicurist. She inherited the house from her husband in trust for his children from a previous marriage and has no incentive to do anything but the barest maintenance. She is not particularly bright. She is sickeningly unprofessional.

She'd probably kick a "damsel in distress."
