NN may also be able to play some games via selling the parts of Stanford they don't want, shifting book value around, and all that. Good will seems to be ignored more and more on the street as even INTC now reports pro forma (I am not an accountant). In addition, they are not stopped from buying back their own shares when using purchasing method.

That's true. That's the usual course of action for tech companies. Eventhough this is GAAP it always seems a bit fishy to me.
