mb, I usually answer Paper Chase's notes with one-liners, as he tends to doze off if somebody mentions that these stocks represent actual cos. in business. Though AMD has never had a correct prediction for a quarter that I can remember, there are very many reasons why nuclear winter is happening and AMD is showing some vital signs:

1. Nuclear winter relates to corporate spending, of which AMD gets almost none. The retail side, about 40% of the business, is not being impacted by previous overbuying of boxes on the corporate side.

2. AMD is handing Intel its head in a basket on portable sales, now dominating retail portable boxes.

3. The Athlon is simply a better chip than anything Intel has, at a lower price.

4. AMD is not tied into the Rambus scam and that gives them an advantage with cash strapped OEMs.

5. If AMD doesn't do well this XMAS, they may be goners.
