There are lots of differing opinions on this thread, Duane. These issues have been discussed over and over for the last month. If you haven't done so, why not read the last 1,000 posts and bring yourself up to date.

FWIW, I am not contemplating selling Q at these levels, so I obviously think it's still a buy, and I own G as well, though I admit it's early times.

Duane, the following is my opinion and I am usually wrong:

It is not too late to buy Q, though it will take a dip somewhere between here and $500. If you are LTBH, ride the dip. It IS a Gorilla.

It is not too late to by GMST, though it may be a few months before we get explosive growth. If you are LTBH, ride the rise. It MAY be a Gorilla.

ATHM is NOT a Gorilla, never was, never will be.

STRONGLY suggest you RTFM this weekend. Its in the bookstore.

Good investing.

Duane:

Is Q too far into its Tornado to invest in according to GG rules? Is it really too early to consider GMSTR and I way outside of the G game to even have an ATHM position?

JMHO.....it all depends on your level of patience, and investing philosophy. Agree with Uncle Frank and DownSouth, which is to RTFM and review posts of past few months, if not back to March. Very important to understand the personalities here, and to understand the evolution of our thought processes as we refine and better comprehend the Gorilla Game principles.

If you are LTB & H, then....Q is expected to run strong until the split, and maybe thereafter when its perceived affordability will bring others into the market with their money. Also, Q may run strong into January because of pending quarterly report, probably in early February; also, Q could run some more when sale of handset division is finally announced....I would think this news is built in to the price now, yet many more people seem to be discovering the Q, and any news seems to make it run. Sale of the handset division should result in better profits and profit margins, enhancing earnings/share. Q has set the end of '99 as a timeframe by which to sell the handset division.

Gemstar is just beginning. I agree with Uncle Frank and Merlin that it is a neonatal gorilla; the actual tornado may have begun has its merger with TV Guide permits achievement of critical mass of subscribers/viewers for Guide Plus in the coming year. Its "perceived" tornado may be a ways off, as revenues from "page views", etc. may not be obvious until next year or early 2001.

I agree with King Arthur....it's a great day to be free, to be American, and to own Q and Gem. Even my loving but skeptical wife is beginning to think I'm on to something with this GG philosophy. I notice this month, she is chastising me less for getting onto the internet and surfing S.I. Just a coincidence that Q exploded this past few weeks.
