China govt cancels silver market monopoly; encourages exports
Shanghai--Nov 12--China will abolish its 50-year-old state silver monopoly
and will allow the metal to trade freely, the official Xinhua News Agency
reported late Thursday, though it didn't specify when the move would be enacted.
At present, the government sets official silver prices in the domestic market.
China's silver production has increased hugely since the state
monopoly came into force. (Story .11346)
