hey gott,

appreciate the input. this 13gb hd i have coming in the new dell is going to demand to be played with. it's simply way more room than i've ever had before. i guess i should put the old drive in the new box to transfer files and stuff. then while it's in there, copy everything off of the old onto a new partition, then put the old hd back in the old box and start learning how to format and install an os on it. then, as per wily's suggestion to me the other day, think about doing a mobo/cpu/ram upgrade on the old machine. wily suggested an amd k6-2 500 mobo and chip and a 128mb stick, and maybe having to reinstall windows, with the above items coming to about $450.

but for now, off to search out partition magic...

:)
