Carl, re: <One unmentioned benefit of this up move in AMD is the press it generates.>

I agree with your assessment. Now I see how well they planned with great timing on the advertisements to double the effect. The advertisements start on Nov 14. Thanks.

Regards,
Goutama

carl bilow, re:"One unmentioned benefit of this up move in AMD is the press it generates."

AMD is getting a lot of free press from this as well as retailers advertising AMD products. EGADS -- the "Circuit City" flyer included in all So. Cal. newspapers today has individual pictures for the following:
1. Compaq AMD Athlon 600 system with 19" $2,524
2. Compaq AMD Athlon 500 system with 17" $1,724
3. IBM Intel PIII 500 system with 17" $1,649
4. IBM AMD K6-2-500 system with 15" $1,049
5. IBM Intel Celeron 433 notebook 13" HPA, 32M $1,499
6. IBM Intel Celeron 466 notebook 14" TFT, 64M, DVD $2,399
7. Compaq AMD K6-2-433 notebook 12" TFT, 64M, DVD $1,999
8. Compaq AMD K6-2-433 notebook 13" HPA, 64M $1,599
9. Toshiba AMD K6-2-380 notebook 12" DSTN, 32M $1,099

I thought that was it, then I opened to the center, with five more AMD systems ("build your computer for less")
10. IBM AMD Athlon 550 system with 15" $1,749
11. IBM AMD Athlon 600 system with 15" $2,049
12. Compaq AMD Athlon 700 system with 17" $2,249
13. Compaq AMD k6-2-450 notebook, 14" TFT, 64M $1,898
14. Compaq AMD K6-2-475 notebook, 14" TFT, 128M, DVD $2,549

Then on the back page:
15. [Unknown Brand] Intel PIII-500 system with 19" $1,899

Final Score:
AMD: 11
Intel:4
