Captain Jack...Just came home and decided to check on
my comrades in pain on this thread.

I believe I've missed a couple of 1000 posts but not
any up movement in the stock price. Even SI has changed.

Interesting story concerning the 99th US Division.

Under the V Corps, the 99th was led by
MajGen. Walter E. Lauer, who wrote a book in which
you might be interested.
"Battle Babies: The Story of the 99th Inf Div in WWII"
Baton Rouge: Military Press of Louisiana, Inc. 1951)

The 394th Inf regiment took the major German offensive
on Dec 16. 1944.
Col. Don Riley (cmdr 394th) realized that there was a
2 mile gap between the 394 in Neuhof and the
14 Cav Rgt at Lanzerath and drove jeep patrols along this
gap everyday. The Germans also recognized this gap and
sent elements of the 1SS PZ Korps from the 6 Army Group
at the 394th. 12SS Pz, 277 VG and 12 VG Divs entered this
sector.
The war certainly forced many young people to grow up
very quickly. Your father was lucky to survive the
Ardenne Offensive.

Thanks for sharing the story.
