speaking of a weak stock...What about their buyback? Did Novell forget they have one or would we be looking at 10/share without them purchasing??

As a vendor with contacts at Novell, this is what I hear about marketing.

They have not advertised at all in the second half of the year. This was a business decision, based on the need to make numbers, etc. Now they are being ripped for it, especially with Microsoft getting ready to dig up Elvis (or God knows what) to sell Windows 2000.

The marketing isn't any different from when Stone and Slitz were there. They've just been more quiet.

For some reason, they are afraid about doing anything that strongly identifies them with the Internet and gives them a clear identity. Right now, this is nobody's job and the leadership doesn't get the need for it. But even if they come up with a great new pitch, it won't matter that much if they don't do anything to deliver it.

The PR is reasonably good , especially around Eric Schmidt and his position as an Internet visionary. The challenge for them is to position the company as an Internet visionary, as Fred Smart and others on this board have said over and over again. As a fan of their technology, I hope that they pay someone to do this for them or else merge with someone who knows how to do it.
