Pat,

Is Spectra-Physics the former SDL?

SDL, Inc. commenced operations in June of 1983 as a joint venture of Xerox Corporation ('Xerox") and Spectra-Physics, Inc. ("Spectra-Physics").. So this would probably be one of SDL's parent companies. There is a little more of this history(but it's pretty dry stuff) if you don't have it and I'll be glad to copy it out . As late as 1994 they (SDL, Inc.) were under the name of Spectra-Diode Labs and I believe that changed in 1995 when they went public or shortly before that happening. I have the old prospectus which has the name SDL, Inc. on it so it was prior to or in conjunction with that event that the name changed and they went public in March of 1995.

Best Wishes,

kat
